District Veterinary Officer Dr. Paul Mulopa said it is a Government's initiative program of mounting mobile check points that will help sensitize our livestock farmers on what's supposed to be done when moving any livestock.
He named the six veterinary camps as Isoka central, Ntipo, Mukwavi, Kalungu, Kampumbu and Nzoche.
Dr. Mulopa said the move will also help discourage illegal animal movements and control the spread of livestock diseases that can pose serious economic and public health problems to both livestock farmers and communities.
He emphasized on the need for farmers to follow Government stipulated regulations whenever they intend to move their animals from one area to the other by acquiring the necessary documents such as the stock movement permits that will help the officers to guide the livestock farmers on the measures in place to prevent the spread of animal diseases.
Dr. Mulopa reviewied that the District in the recent past had cases of suspected African Swine fever and a confirmed case of rabies in a dog.
He advised livestock farmers to be vigilant and report any illigal animal movement or sick animals to the veterinary office.
And Elias Sinkamba a farmer of kampumbu vet camp appreciated the move by Government on mounting disease control check points adding that their animals will be safe from exposure to animals of unknown origin that may be carrying diseases.
