Blessings Salasini, a Zambian currently residing in Lusaka with roots in Copperbelt (Kitwe), shares a compelling journey into the world of agriculture. Raised in Kitwe and Luanshya and having lived in various Copperbelt cities, Blessings is one of five siblings. He is now in his third year pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness Management at Zambian Open University.
Blessings' passion for agriculture ignited as early as the 6th grade but truly flourished during his 10th-grade secondary school years when he began raising rabbits, chickens, and other poultry. His knowledge expanded significantly when he immersed himself in poultry farming at his brother's house in Chililabombwe.
Driven by his growing interest, Blessings continued to enhance his poultry expertise by networking with professionals at Farm Depot. This hands-on experience solidified his decision to pursue a career in agriculture.
He chose Zambian Open University due to its strong reputation for producing successful graduates and its long-standing presence in Zambia since 2002. Additionally, the university's affiliation with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) further influenced his choice, providing opportunities for scholarships, academic research, and inter-university collaboration.
Blessings' decision to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness Management stems from his recognition of the changing landscape of jobs, even in traditional sectors like agriculture. This program equips him with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions at both the farm and industrial levels, encompassing agricultural practices and financial management.
In conclusion, Blessings Salasini's academic journey reflects his unwavering commitment to agriculture and his determination to contribute to the sector's growth and innovation.
