 In this article we will be looking at the REDCREOLE ONION variety. There are two windows ofplanting. The first planting starts in February and transplanted in April.

 It takes two months from the time of plantingto the time of transplanting. Then the Second window of planting starts inAugust and transplanted in October. This variety (RED CREOLE ONION) can beplanted all year round.

 CHARACTERISTICS

·        Red Onion with an attractive shape

·        Good storage qualities

·        Has good test(pungent)

·        Plant spacing(cm) 30 by 10cm three plantings per bed as illustrated below.

 

SEED RATE

·        5 – 6 kgs /Ha for transplants while 7 – 8 Kgs/Ha when planted directly.  

 MATURITY PERIOD

 ·        Up to 180 days to maturity

 EXPECTED YIELD PER HECTACRE

·        Average yield per acre: 30,000kg – 35,000Kg under good agriculture practices

 

The expected yield per hectare can be attained ONLY when all the OUTLINED agronomical practices provided by SeedCo agronomists are strictly followed and observed by the farmer.
